Coach Dickson played his youth hockey in Rockland County, NY for the Ramapo Rangers & Ramapo Saints. In High School, Joe started all 4 years for the East Ramapo Varsity ice hockey team earning All-League honors twice. Joe continued his hockey career after high school playing for the Ramapo Jr. Rangers. After his playing career ended, he stepped into coaching to share his knowledge, experience and passion for the game.
Joe has been involved with a vast array of teams for the past 10 years at the Squirt, Pee-Wee, Bantam, Midget & High School levels, winning league titles at multiple levels along the way. During his time coaching youth hockey, Joe has mentored over 20 players that graduated to the junior (A&B) and collegiate levels (NCAA D3, ACHA).
Prior to joining the Rutgers staff, Joe has been working with Sentinel Goalie Consultants as an instructor and was Co-Head Coach of the Pascack Valley High School varsity ice hockey team for the previous 5 seasons. During that time, Pascack Valley won the 2014 Ice Vault holiday tournament and qualified for the NJ Public A State Playoffs three times.
Joe is looking forward to elevating his coaching career, working with older and higher level players, while starting a new and exciting chapter at Rutgers this season. As an Assistant Coach, Joe will support Coach Bernstein in all aspects of the game, but will specialize in improving the team’s defensive zone play, deploying effective defensive tactics, penalty kill design and goaltender & defense instruction during practice.
