Adriaan originally hails from Rochester, NY where he played his youth hockey in the Rochester Jr. Americans organization. He graduated from Greece Arcadia High School in 1996 before heading South to “The Banks”. He played five seasons in a Rutgers uniform, helping the Knights win a Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational Championship, a bid to two consecutive ACHA Div. 2 national tournaments (’97 & ‘98) and a Super East Conference championship (’98). His tireless work ethic, both on and off the ice, also contributed to the Ice Knights being promoted to ACHA Div. 1 level, starting in the ‘98-’99 season, and an invitation into the ECHA Conference. "Coach Klaassy" served as Assistant Coach to former teammate Andy Gojdycz for nine seasons before transitioning to his new role as GM during the summer of 2015. That same diligent work ethic, attention to detail, in-depth hockey knowledge and love for the game are what he now uses to oversee all aspects of the program as General Manager of the Ice Knights.
Klaassen also serves as the Recruiting Director for the program, overseeing the entire recruiting process from the initial scouting of a player to his first day on campus. During his tenure, he has developed strong relationships with many of the top junior, prep school, high school, midget and junior college hockey programs in the Northeast region and throughout the United States and Canada. His constant goal is to not only attract the highest caliber players, but quality students and families who are looking for the best combined option of hockey, academics and college experience in the ACHA.
Off the ice, Adriaan currently works as an Information Technology Systems Engineer in midtown Manhattan. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology – Management of Information Systems from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He lives in Hoboken, NJ with his wife Bridget.
