Rutgers University is one of the nation's major state universities. Chartered in 1766, it has a unique history as a colonial college, a land-grant institution, and a state university. Its 30 degree-granting units offer over 100 distinct bachelor’s degrees, and thousands of courses. Rutgers is one of the top public schools in the country, often considered “Public Ivy League”. At this world-class research university, students work side by side with nationally renowned professors to achieve knowledge they will use the rest of their lives.

The Rutgers Ice Hockey Program is also very rich in history, dating as far back as 1897. Our program currently competes at the Division 1 level of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), and is a member of the Northeast Collegiate Hockey League (NECHL) for divisional play. With the exception of the Princeton University Tigers (NCAA Div. 1), Rutgers Hockey competes at a higher level than any other collegiate program in the state of New Jersey

We actively recruit players who we believe will help the program continue to succeed and prosper for years to come. More specifically, we are looking for young men who are dedicated to hard work, both on the ice and in the classroom. The goal of the program is not only to keep up with, and exceed, the level of play of our competition, but more importantly to develop our players into men that have the values to thrive in whatever they choose to do in life after Rutgers Hockey.

For those players who do have the opportunity to advance to the next level on the ice, our coaching staff has ample contacts in the form of professional scouts and coaches. The staff will fully encourage, and assist in, any player’s desire to advance their career at any point in time. Perfect examples of this opportunity can be found in both our current head and goaltending coaches, who both enjoyed brief stints in the ECHL following their college careers at Rutgers.

Rutgers University is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), a highly selective organization composed of the 62 leading research universities in North America. As a result, not only do our players have the chance to advance to the next level in the sport of hockey, they are assured unlimited opportunity upon graduation, in any profession they desire to pursue.
